Sustainable Coffee Farming: CECOFA’s Environmental Initiatives
Introduction
Sustainability is a core value at CECOFA. We are committed to implementing environmentally friendly practices that ensure the long-term viability of coffee farming in Uganda.
Eco-Friendly Practices
Our sustainability initiatives include a range of practices designed to reduce our environmental footprint and promote biodiversity. These practices include:
- Replanting Programs: Encouraging farmers to plant disease-resistant coffee varieties and shade trees to protect crops and improve soil health.
- Renewable Energy: Promoting the use of biogas digesters and improved cook stoves to reduce reliance on traditional fuels.
- Waste Management: Utilizing coffee husks and pulps to create charcoal briquettes, reducing waste and providing an additional source of income for farmers.
Community Education
We also engage in community education programs to raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation. By involving the entire community, we ensure that our sustainability efforts have a lasting impact.
